Breaking: Atiku ‘picks’ Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate

As 2023 general election draws near, the camp of the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has narrowed down on one person for consideration as running mate, morenews360.blogspot.com reports.
According to sources, Atiku’s backers are concluding talks on Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa for the position of the vice president.

Barring any last minute-change, Okowa would be unveiled as the running mate of the frontline contender for the 2023 presidency.

Breaking: Tinubu’s likely to review his running mate today

There are strong indications that the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) may settle for the Plateau State Governor, Solomon Lalong, as running mate to its presidential candidate, Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2023 elections.

Lalong has been described as “a cool-headed politician who is not motivated by tribal or religious sentiments.”

The Plateau State Governor has also been described as “the only governor whose approach to the security situation in the state has helped to calm frayed nerves, and ensured return to normalcy.”

Party Chieftain and convener of Northern Conscience for 2023 (NCF’2023), Dr Garus Gololo, in a chat on Saturday in Abuja, said that “Lalong is the first Governor in Plateau State to give a Muslim the chance at beginning the local government Chairman of Plateau North.

He said that the APC needs to win the presidential elections earlier. And if it picks anybody besides him, I don’t see the chances of the party making it.”

According to him, “with Tinubu and Lalong, the APC is sure of putting Atiku and Kwankwaso where they belong to.”

The party Chieftain also criticised moves in some quarters to pair the party’s flag bearer with the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, adding that “I am from Bauchi and I will not vote for Yakubu Dogara. We know the problems there. His local government had to be moved from Tafawa Balewa to Gununu.

“So you don’t expect that person to be Vice President and you expect to have peace. Or is it Boss Mustapha; what’s his political currency?

They said that he’ll go for Babachir Lawal. Though the court gave him a clean bill of Health, the masses still believe that he has baggage on him. For this, they’ll not vote for him. So, let’s not waste our time.”

On the governorship elections in Bauchi State, Dr Gololo opted for Former Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, insisting that “he is a man of the grassroots.”

He further urged the Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed “to concentrate on other endeavours besides contesting for the governorship again, seeing his failed presidential bid.”

BREAKING: INEC Rejects Akpabio As APC Senatorial Candidate, Recognizes Contender

INEC has rejected Akpabio as APC senatorial candidate.
Morenews360.blogspot.com reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the primaries which produced Godswill Akpabio as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district.

Akpabio, who stepped down for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the ruling party, at the convention of the ruling party, was declared winner of a senatorial primary conducted on Thursday.

The State APC Chairman, Mr Stephen Ntukekpo, had said he was directed by the party at the national level to carry out a re-run over alleged infractions.

According to the result of the rerun senatorial primary election, Akapbio emerged winner with 478 votes, while DIG Ekpo Udom (rtd), who won the first primary, secured just three votes.

But speaking with Daily Trust in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, on Sunday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Mike Igini, said the commission would only recognise the winner of the primaries monitored by INEC.

He denied the claim that the commission monitored the re-run APC senatorial primaries, where Akpabio emerged winner.

“The primaries was concluded on the 27th of last month, so I don’t know what you are talking about. The one that was conducted was monitored by INEC and the report has been submitted to Abuja.

The REC also affirmed that the APC has no governorship candidate in the state, saying the governorship primary where Mr Akanimo Udofia emerged winner was not monitored by INEC.

Dan Satch Takes the lead as Oriental Brothers returns into the highlife music industry

Dan Satch Takes the lead as Oriental Brothers returns into the highlife music industry Anew, shares brand new pictures.

Ferdinand Dan-Satch Chukwuemeka Opara has started a movement of reviving the 'long-faded' Oriental Brothers Band again.

Dan Satch had made a lot of efforts recently while trying to come back to light of recognition, which appears somehow unachieveable.

In recent a publication by the NicheNg platform, Dan Satch said he is the founder of Oriental Brothers.
" I am the founder of Oriental Brothers, Dan-Satch Emeka Opara. Other members of my band, those who are still alive, are still around. Ichita and Warrior are now late. We are still playing. We are still playing with members of the group. But nobody is controlling the piracy business."

Meanwhile, ALLmusic (another platform) had deemed the publication to be inaccurate.

According to ALLmusic, they wrote:
""The original Oriental Brothers were formed by Godwin Kabaka Opara with his brothers Ferdinand Dan Satch Emeka Opara, Christogonous Ezebuiro "Warrior" Obinna, and Kabaka Opara, along with Nathaniel "Mangala" Ejiogu, Hybrilious Dkwilla' Alaraibe, and Prince Ichita. Ejiogu died shortly before the band's success. The first split within the group occurred in 1977 when founding members F. Dan Satch Opara and Prince Ichita left to start their own bands under the Oriental Brothers moniker. ""

Dan Satch has also blamed the IGBO people for what he calls " lack of respect and recognition" , claiming that they comforted the IGBOs during the war in 1967, and that they need to be recognized as idols. ".

Today, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa called on people in authority to use their positions to make the lives of the people they lead better.

Governor Okowa stated this during a Thanksgiving Service for the 3rd anniversary of the 7th Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly at the Living Faith Church, Asaba.

"It is God that allows us to be where we are in positions of authority. We must therefore use our positions to better the lives of our people and add value to Deltans who gave us the mandate to represent them in our various constituencies," Governor Okowa said

Breaking: Atiku To Lists Okowa, Wike, Udom For Running Mate As Bola Tinubu Gives PDP Fresh Headache Over N/West, S/West

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has reportedly submitted three names of his possible running mate to leaders of the main opposition party to select from.
Naija News reports that the PDP must submit the name of its presidential candidate and running mate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the deadline set for June 17.

It was gathered that Governors Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa and Udom Emmanuel of Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom States respectively made the list.

But sources disclosed that Atiku, a former Nigerian Vice-President, is favourably disposed to the choice of Okowa, a medical doctor serving his second term as the governor.

“Atiku will consult very well. He has met with the governors on the platform of the party; he has met with members of the national caucus, the PDP Governors’ Forum, members of the National Executive Committee, and even former presidents and heads of state,” a top source told The PUNCH.

“The leadership of the party asked him to bring three names that he thinks he could work with and he did, which are the names people have been mentioning everywhere; Wike, Okowa and Udom Emmanuel. But I think he prefers Okowa. He (Okowa) is believed to have the support of the majority of the governors, including those from the South-East and South-South, where he hails from.

“The preference for him is also strategic. Following the need to carry along the South-East people, Okowa is Igbo from the Igbo part of Delta State. He is calm, a medical doctor and does not insult or fight people, including his colleagues. Even during campaigns, he’s not the type to speak ill of fellow aspirants or candidates.

“Therefore, it’s not likely that there will be any major opposition to his choice. Like I said, he is Igbo and he will create that needed balance between the South-South and the South-East. The Igbo will support him and people in the South-South will also support him.”

The source, who was privy to some of the meetings held over the issue, disclosed that some PDP governors are not in favour of Wike becoming Atiku’s running mate.

The source claimed that some governors frustrated the move to make him the running mate because they feel he is too powerful.

“But in all honesty, you need someone like Wike to win the election.

“He can fight dirty and can pull the crowd. But some of the governors, who form a powerful and influential bloc in the party, feel otherwise and you cannot dismiss their views,” the source said.

The Bola Tinubu factor
The highly-placed revealed that some stakeholders are considering picking a running mate from the South-West to challenge the emergence of Bola Tinubu.

The source said PDP stakeholders are saying it will be dangerous for the party to totally ignore the South-West, because North-West, which has the highest votes, may give Tinubu that advantage.

“Now, people are saying if a Christian from the South-West is Atiku’s running mate, it will affect Tinubu’s votes in the region, because running with a Muslim/Muslim ticket will spark outrage from Pentecostal Christians and that will affect his votes among even the northern Christians. It will also affect him in the South-South. That is the argument. So, the PDP cannot also ignore the South-Wes

Democracy Day: You read same speech every year, make empty promises – Shehu Sani to Buhari

Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker and sociopolitical activist, has observed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2022 Democracy Day speech was exactly the same he had delivered in previous years.
According to Sani, the President’s speech is coated with empty promises just as those of previous years
One of the key points of Buhari’s speech was when the President said he lived daily in grief and worry over victims of terrorists attacks in Nigeria and this was not the first time he has expressed grief over the security situation of the country with little or nothing done to bring it under control.

Buhari concluded his speech, being his very last as President, by further assuring of his commitment to protect Nigeria and Nigerians from all enemies from within and outside.

He also promised Nigerians a free, fair and transparent electoral process come 2023.

And in reacting, the former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the Senate, tweeted, “The President’s democracy day speech is not different from all his previous speeches, other than this one is the last; full of assurances and promises and empty in delivery.Anyway, this time he was shy to blame ‘16 years of misrule’.”

We Won't Give Anyone Money to Vote for Peter Obi - Campaign DG

If you thought the Labour Party and her presidential candidate Peter Obi cannot compete favourably with the big wigs in Nigeria's political space, then you may need to have a rethink.

This is because the Director-General of the party's presidential campaign, Dr. Doyin Okupe has poured cold water on suggestions they lack the financial muscle to prosecute a successful election.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ireti Bakare-Yusuf on Danfo Conversations, Okupe revealed the party's plans to win.

For him, the party has "worked it out."

"With the headship like Peter Obi, and while APC and PDP may be spending 200 billion, we don't need to spend more than a third.

"This is going to be a people's party," he said.

While further disclosing the numbers needed for the campaign, the former presidential aspirant also quelled suggestions of vote-buying and a lack of structures by the party.

"Labour itself probably has more than 35 to 40 million people who are eligible to vote as members.

"We are not going to give anybody money to vote for Peter Obi, people are ready to put their own money out to make sure that Peter Obi wins," he said.

Okupe sheds more light on how the party plans to ensure victory in the 2023 elections. Watch the video to find out what he had to say.

June 12: President Buhari’s 2022 Democracy Day Speech

President Muhammadu Buhari on the occasion of Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration addressed citizens of the country in a nationwide broadcast monitored by AllNews Nigeria.

The broadcast which was done today been Sunday , June 12 is part of activities marking Nigeria's Democracy day.

June 12: President Buhari’s Speech On 2022 Democracy Day
Fellow Nigerians, Today, June the 12th  marks another Democracy Day anniversary and an occasion to celebrate freedom and unity of our Nation.

2. From 1999, we consistently celebrated Democracy Day to mark the end of military rule and the return of power and control into the hands of those freely elected by the people. On this day, Nigerians recommit themselves to ensuring we protect and preserve the ideals of democracy.

3. In 2018, we moved Democracy Day from 29th of May to the 12th of June. This change was to remind all Nigerians of one free election after which the presumed winner along with Nigerians were denied their rights and their choice.

4. On June 12th 1993, Nigerians saw the best in our citizens as we all went out to vote peacefully. By June 24th 1993, we also saw the worst of our leadership as the elections were annulled.

5. We must never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of Nigeria’s democracy during 1993. Their patriotism and peaceful struggle should guide our actions especially when it comes to electing our leaders and holding them accountable, now and in future.

6. Fellow Nigerians this is my last Democracy Day speech as your President. By June 12th, 2023, exactly one year from today, you will already have a new President. I remain committed and determined to ensure that the new President is elected through a peaceful and transparent process.

7. It is important for all of us to remember that June 12th, 2023 will be exactly 30 years from the 1993 Presidential elections. In honour and memory of one of our national heroes for democracy, Chief M.K.O Abiola, GCFR, we must all work together to ensure this transition is done in a peaceful manner.

8. I am hopeful that we can achieve this. The signs so far are positive. Recently, all registered political parties conducted primaries to select their candidates for the 2023 general elections.

9. These primaries were peaceful and orderly. Those who won were magnanimous in their victories. Those who lost were gracious in defeat. And those aggrieved opted to seek judicial justice as opposed to jungle justice.

10. I followed the party primaries closely from the state level to the Presidential level. I was very impressed to see across all the political parties that, most candidates ran issued based campaigns. The language and tone throughout were on the whole measured and controlled.

11. Another positive that came from the 2022 party primaries was the significant increase in women and youth particularly across all parties. I was very pleased to see this development. This augurs well for the future. These trends clearly show the level of maturity our democracy has achieved in the last 23 years.

12. As we move into the general election campaign season, we must sustain this mature attitude to campaigning and ultimately, voting. We must never see it as a “do or die” affair. We must all remember democracy is about the will of the majority. There must be winners and losers.

13. I will therefore take this opportunity on this very special day to ask all candidates to continue running issue focused campaigns and to treat opponents with dignity. As leaders, you must all showcase high character and never forget that the world is watching us and Africa looks up to Nigeria to provide example in governance. The tone you set at the top will surely be replicated in your followers.

14. For the voters, I am pleased to inform you that in the last 7 years, our government across all tiers, has made significant investments to reform and enhance our electoral laws, systems, and processes to safeguard your votes.

15. The Executive, Legislature and Judiciary were and still remain united and committed to ensure these reforms are fully implemented in the 2023 general elections. Fellow Nigerians, your right to choose your government will be preserved and protected.

16. I know many of us are concerned with the rise in insecurity due to terrorist activities in parts of the country. As a government, we are working hard to contain and address these challenges. And ensure that the 2023 general elections are safe and secure for all Nigerians.

17. To achieve this however, we must all contribute. It is not the job of government alone. I ask all citizens to support and cooperate with our security agencies by reporting any suspicious characters and activities to law enforcement agencies. We can only have a safe country if we are able to prevent crime not after the crime has been committed.

18. On this special day, I want us all to put all victims of terrorist activities in our thoughts and prayers.  I am living daily with the grief and worry for all those victims and prisoners of terrorism and kidnapping. I and the security agencies are doing all we can to free those unfortunate countrymen and countrywomen safely.

19. For those who have lost their lives, we will continue to seek justice for their families against the perpetrators. For those currently in captivity, we will not stop until they are freed, and their kidnappers are brought to justice. If we all unite, we will be victorious against these agents of terror and destruction.

20. We have reformed some of our security structures. Some of the defence assets we procured three years ago have arrived and have been deployed.

21. Our cyber security and surveillance systems are being upgraded to further enhance our ability to track and trace criminal elements. We are also recruiting and training new personnel across all our security and intelligence agencies to strengthen the country’s over-all security.

22. I will conclude this Democracy Day speech, my last as President, by assuring you of my commitment to protect Nigeria and Nigerians from all enemies from within and outside.

23. I am also promising you a free, fair and transparent electoral process. And I am pleading with all citizens to come together and work with Government to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.

24. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

2023 Presidential Election: Umahi Weeps For Ndigbo, Disowns Ohanaeze President-General

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer Chief David Nweze Umahi, has decried the high level of betrayal displayed by delegates from four southeast states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo, during the just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election.
Umahi, who took out time to express his displeasure during the maiden matriculation ceremony of the David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, said it was a very big shame to the Igbos not to make a statement with their delegates.

Governor Umahi thanked Ebonyi delegates both in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ebonyi State, for promoting the interest of Ebonyi people.

The Governor added that he was disappointed with the attitude of the President-General of Ohanaeze, George Obiozor, saying that despite his efforts to make delegates of Igbo extraction to vote for their own during the presidential election, he was still disappointed.

He said, “Let me first deviate a little before I come to what we are doing today. Ebonyi people are wonderful people. It will not be good for me not to take out time to express my gratitude to you after the presidential primary election.
“The presidential election was an eye opener to Ebonyi State. I thank God that through your support we had a victory. We decided to contest so that the Igbo people would not say that we do not have qualified people.

THEWILL EDITORIAL: APC And Recent Defections
“The Igbo man has five states and we should be asking why. Is there any fairness? Other states have 40 to 50 local government areas. How do you expect an Igbo man to win? But the worst is the attitude of delegates from the southeast. I met with delegates from southeast and begged them to vote for any aspirants from southeast and by doing so we will make a statement.

“Only Ebonyi people in PDP stood for both the PDP and APC. It is a very big shame that our people are crying over marginalisation. I am ashamed of the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. He can no longer be my president. It is a very big shame every Igbo man should be weeping for himself. And let me warn the youths in Ebonyi State that those leaders selling us out should not be considered our leaders again.

“You talk about marginalisation and Biafra and I continue to say that Ebonyi State cannot be part of Biafra. I weep for our leaders. There is no amount of lobbying that did not come for me, but I continue to say it is an Igbo man.

“Anyone that comes against the Ebonyi people, I will fight in public to protect the integrity of Ebonyi man. We must aspire and the kingdom of darkness cannot hold Ebonyi down. We have a fighting spirit and we have nothing to be afraid of. When honourable people are needed in the southeast, they will look for Ebonyi people”, he assured.

It is likely that Tinubu will choose his running mate from the North, however, the issue of religion will play a key factor in the political decision.

Tinubu who is a Muslim is likely to pick a Christian. However, the choice of Christian partner from the north is becoming a huge task.

Many believe he cannot run a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Well, analysts have picked the names below as individuals he's likely to choose:

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State

Senator Uche Congratulate Anambra State Senators

3 YEARS IN OFFICE: WE'VE ACHIEVED TOGETHER, LETS DO MORE.

Umunnem Ndi Anambra Central,

On this day three years ago, particularly on the 11th of June 2019, the 9th Senate was inaugurated and I took the oath of office to represent you at the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate - a privilege I can never take for granted.

These past three years hav

e afforded me the rare opportunity of contributing greatly to the development of our Senatorial District and Anambra state at large.

From day one, I set out with a clear vision and purpose which is to be a strong voice in the Senate as well as use the instrumentality of legislation to better the lives of constituents.

The primary purpose of the legislature is to make laws for peace, order and good governance. As legislators we are empowered by law to discharge three basic functions: lawmaking, oversight and representation. These tripartite functions are designed to ensure that while we serve the nation, we are also in a position to attract developmental projects and programmes that will make tangible impact on the lives of our constituents.

On 20th April, 2022, we held our annual stakeholders briefing/town hall meeting in line with our commitment to offer accountable and effective representation. Delivering my address at that auspicious event, I listed some of our achievements in the last three years (See Address: https://bit.ly/3zoLEBI). The event afforded us the opportunity to once again interact with constituents and give account of the mandate you have bestowed on us.

Having served you meritoriously for the last three years leading to my emergence as the candidate of the Official Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigeria for the 2023 general elections, I urge you to stand with me and continue to support my quest to transform our Senatorial District.

Let your decision on who will represent our Senatorial District be guided by the antecedents and track record of the individuals who seek your votes as no one can give what he or she does not have.

The contest is not about who will be addressed as Distinguished Senator, but about who has the capacity and competence to attract projects and initiatives that will improve the lots of our people. I want to assure you that I will continue to strive to offer a representation that will improve your lives and that of our children.

Umunnem, it has been a great privilege to serve you in these past years - one that I'm immensely grateful for. While I thank you for your continuous support and encouragement, I remain grateful to God Almighty who has given us the grace to accomplish what we have achieved thus far.

Finally, I wish to reiterate my commitment to purposeful representation and pledge to continue to work hard to fulfill my promises to you. With your support, we shall consolidate on our achievements and take Anambra Central Senatorial District to greater heights.

May God bless you all.

I remain your Chief Servant,
Senator Uche Ekwunife, PhD (IYOM
